You’ve probably heard about the Migos XXXTentacion fight by now- as it pretty much broke the god damn internet.
But why did it even happen to begin with? Here’s a brief rundown of the artists involved, and the beef that led up to the altercation.
also known as “X”, this Floridian rapper is hard as fuck- (as in he stabbed a man who was attacking his mother when he was only 6 years old). Once something like that happens, you’re destined to be a savage unless you get therapy (he never did). X was in and out of juvie for a long time, and ended up going to prison in 2016 for aggravated assault of a pregnant woman.
X’s music is just as savage as he is, characterized by a gritty and lo-fi “trap” sound. It’s not hard to imagine the robberies and deadly weapon assaults he’s committed over the years while listening to his flow.
His song “Look At Me” hit number 34 on the Hot 100 billboard chart, and is what put him on the map.
Migos is a rap trio from Georgia, consisting of members “Quavo”, “Offset” and “Takeoff”. They all grew up together ( Quavo is Takeoff’s uncle, and Offset is Quavo’s cousin). They come from Gwinnett County, where the average household income is nearly 80k a year.
Basically, they had the exact opposite upbringing of “X”, who probably has never stepped foot in a country club or golf course in his life.
They rose to fame with their hit single “Versace”, which was a lead song off their mixtape “Young Rich Niggas”.
Ah, yes… The most emotional rapper in the game, and a man who needs no introduction. Drake was raised in a wealthy Toronto suburb, which you think would have murdered any chances of him becoming a successful rapper.
But no, the “Degrassi” star went on to create an insane amount of smash hits- like “The Motto” “Take Care” “Worst Behavior”, “Hotline Bling”, “Started From the Bottom”, and “One Dance”.
Drake is known for being the first dude to successfully combine R&B singing with rapping. Despite him being a little bitch sometimes, his flow is incredibly unique and one of a kind.
But other rappers aren’t so convinced.
The beef started when Drake previewed an unreleased song in Amsterdam, which XXXTentacion swore up and down ripped off his hit “Look at Me”. Drake denied any thievery, offering up that “he could see how X might see some similarities based off the first two lines of the song”.
X responded by posting a flurry of angry tweets, calling Drake a pussy, and insinuating that his smash hit “Hotline Bling” was a rip off of D.R.A.M’s song “Cha Cha”.
Here’s where Migos gets involved- which is kind of hilarious because they have literally nothing to do with the Drake and X beef.
After listening to a radio interview where X criticizes Drake, Offset calls out X, saying that it’s impossible that Drake stole X’s flow because
A: Drake has been in the rap game way longer
B: Practically nobody even knows who X is (ouch).
Then in another seemingly unrelated event, rapper SahBabii wore an upside down cross necklace to the Billboard Music Awards, which Offset thought was “devil worship” and shamed SahBabii for.
SahBabii got pissed, and X came to his rescue.
X Taunted Migos, basically saying that they were just shitting on SahBabii cause he’s young, and that they’re way too old to have successful rap careers anyway.
(in the rap game, 35 is old).
So, all of this online shit talking eventually led to a real-life street brawl with X and all three Migos members…. Or so he thought?
After getting the living fuck beat out of him, X goes on to Instagram to ramble incoherently like he so often does. In this rambling, he calls out Migos for being pussies and being scared to fight him one-on-one. He also later hits on Offset’s Fiancé “Cardi B”, saying that he listens to her music when he showers, and that he doesn’t have any beef with her.
So clearly at this point- shit is already crazy. But it’s about to get crazier, because we now find out that it wasn’t even Migos who jumped X.
