Lil Xan recently said that Tupac’s music was a “2 out of 10″. Yet, he performed Tupac’s hit song ” California Love” at a concert last Friday.
You know that bit of advice grandpa gave you about respecting your elders and the great ones who came before you?
Yeah, well apparently Lil Xan never had that conversation with gramps, or was just too hopped up on Xanax to remember it. Either way, he’s in deep shit now.
In early March, he made some disparaging comments about Tupac’s music in an interview, calling it “boring” and a “2 out of 10”. Naturally Tupac fans lost their minds over this, and he ended up getting surrounded by a group of 20 high schoolers in L.A who wanted to jump his ass.
He was only able to escape unscathed by calling a police escort- which you can bet he caught flack for.
Lil Xan seems to be unphased by it all.
“They’re saying I’m a pussy for the police escorting me away from a group of 20 people that wanted to jump me,” Xan said in the vid. “And, you can call me a pussy all you want, but, I am not a gang-banging rapper. Am I supposed to act hard? Am I supposed to not fuck with the police ’cause I’m a rapper? Oh wait, I have to huh? ‘Cause that’s what cool rappers do?”
Besides being completely lambasted by Tupac fans, Lil Xan has also been catching heat from other rappers.
- Waka Flocka Flame wants to ban Lil Xan from Hip Hop.
- Rich Homie Quan says he’s the “wackest” rapper in the game right now.
And actor Michael Rapaport had some harsh opinions of his own about the rapper- which he voiced in an Instagram video.
“Little buck tooth, rabbit face muthafucka. You need to apologize, alright? And you don’t need to apologize to Tupac or Tupac’s fans. You need to apologize to whoever the fuck raised you, or didn’t raise you, for raising you to be a dumb fuck. You don’t get to speak on anything that has to do with hip-hop”.
He capped off the rant saying that while Lil Xan still has money, he should sue his tattoo artist that left the “scribbles” that are on his face.
So, let’s get back to the youtube video of Lil Xan performing “California Love”. Honestly, it kind of sounds like his first time performing the song might have also been his first time hearing it. He sings along with a couple lines on the chorus, but doesn’t even attempt the verses.
One look at the like/dislike ratio tells you just about everything you need to know about how fans received the performance. But just in case you weren’t convinced, the comments shed some light on the situation too.
People would respect Lil Xan more if he would stick to his guns. While maybe he should have kept his distaste for Tupac on the low- his real crime was performing one of his songs right after he dissed him.
Lil Xan’s debut albulm “Total Xanarchy” comes out on April 6th, and will feature YG, 2 Chainz, Charli XCX and Diplo.
Will it be good enough to redeem him?
